Driver sought after cyclist killed in hit-and-run on I-35 service road in north Austin

Austin police have identified a cyclist who was struck and killed by a vehicle while on an Interstate 35 service road in North Austin last month as 26-year-old Michael Wayne Allen Parrish.

A Ford F-350 pickup truck was traveling north on the frontage road of the 12100 block of the highway, just south of Tech Ridge Boulevard, the night of Oct. 22, according to a preliminary police investigation.

At around 11 p.m., the truck’s driver moved to the right lane and hit Parrish, who was riding on the far right section of the roadway, police said Tuesday.

The driver continued heading north before turning onto Tech Ridge Boulevard, where they abandoned the vehicle in front of a gas station. The pickup was found with heavy damage to the right front corner panel, police said.

Parrish, who was not wearing a helmet and whose bike did not have a headlight or a rear light, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Anyone with more information about this case should call Austin police at 512-974-6935 or submit tips through their mobile app, Austin PD, which is free for iPhone and Android devices.

Police said Parrish is the 77th person to die in Austin traffic this year. At this time in 2019, police reported 67 traffic deaths.
