1 dead, 4 injured after vehicle crashes into construction zone in North Austin

One person is dead and four others were injured Wednesday night after a vehicle reportedly went into a construction zone in North Austin.

The crash happened in the 12200 block of North Mopac Boulevard (Loop 1) at 9:46 p.m. The driver of the vehicle had been pinned inside and crews had to extricate him.

It was unknown whether the person who died was one of the pedestrians or in the vehicle.

EMS issued trauma alerts for the four other patients. Two of them were transported to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center, one with critical life-threatening injuries and the other with potentially serious injuries, EMS said. The two other patients were taken to Dell Seton Medical Center with serious injuries, officials said.

Pedestrian struck, killed in traffic in East Austin

A pedestrian was killed early Wednesday in traffic on East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in East Austin.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics and Austin firefighters responded at 5:48 a.m. to reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 3400 block of East MLK Boulevard, just east of the intersection with Airport Boulevard.

Medics arrived and tried to perform CPR on the pedestrian but the person died at the scene.
