2 killed in multi-car wreck in San Antonio
Two people were killed and seven injured in a seven-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in far south San Antonio.
Margarita Montemayor, 43, and an unidentified passenger in another car were pronounced dead at the scene by San Antonio police.
The wreck, at Texas 16 and Watson Road, involved two tractor-trailers and five passenger vehicles, according to the police report.
Witnesses said four people traveling north in a green Toyota Solara on Texas 16 ran a red light and struck a tractor-trailer driven by Alejandro Guerra, who was traveling west on Watson Road.
The Solara flipped multiple times, stopping in the left-turning lane of southbound Texas 16. A passenger in the back seat was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tractor-trailer went through the intersection, veering right into southbound traffic on Texas 16. It hit three more cars and another tractor-trailer, causing a domino effect.
Montemayor was driving a white Chrysler 300 that was struck and pushed 100 feet into a ditch.
Guerra’s tractor-trailer came to a stop on the northwest corner of Watson Road and Texas 16. He and a passenger in the tractor-trailer, Nancy Guerra, were not hurt. Five people were transported to a hospital; two refused medical treatment. One of those hospitalized is pregnant, San Antonio Fire Battalion Chief Ralph Medina said.
Wreck in Round Rock kills one
56-year-old Rosalee Ann Cruser died Wednesday in a three-vehicle wreck at A.W. Grimes Boulevard and University Boulevard which occurred about 11:15 a.m..
Witnesses said Cruser, the driver of a Mazda Protege traveling east on University ran a red light and was struck by a Dodge pickup traveling south on A.W. Grimes Boulevard.
The impact spun the truck into a third vehicle.
Cruser died at the scene, police said. A passenger in her vehicle, possibly her mother, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
The 66-year-old driver of the truck was treated for minor injuries, police said. The 16-year-old driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
Man killed in Austin wreck identified
Police said the man killed about 5 p.m. Saturday in a wreck on U.S. 290 West near Oak Hill was Mikel Leslie Light, 58.
Police said Light was driving a Mitsubishi truck east on U.S. 290 near FM 1826 when he tried to pass a Hyundai Santa Fe but grazed the front left corner of the vehicle. The Mitsubishi then crashed into the back of a blue Kia Rio, ran a red light at the intersection of FM 1826, left the roadway and crashed into a signal light pole at the southeast corner, police said.
Light was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, and there were no other injuries. Anyone with information is asked to call vehicular homicide detectives at 974-8164.
High speed chase ends in fatal wreck
A high-speed chase across Austin early Monday ended with one person killed and three others injured, according to law enforcement officials.
The chase began about 1 a.m. at a Walmart at Parmer Lane and Interstate 35 when a person flagged down a Travis County sheriff’s office deputy to report a theft in progress.
The deputy began pursuing a black vehicle carrying four people from the parking lot that then went south on Interstate 35. At least one other deputy vehicle was involved in the chase, but it wasn’t immediately clear how many total units were involved because other law enforcement agencies aided in the pursuit.
The pursuit ended about 1:20 a.m. when the vehicle hit a pole near Brodie Lane and U.S. 290 in front of a Spec’s liquor store.
One man died at the scene, and the three others in the vehicle were taken to area hospitals. No other details about the individuals or their conditions were released Monday
Wreck kills woman, hurts man in Austin
A woman was killed and a man was injured Friday in a head-on collision op RM 620 in Northwest Austin, police said.
According to police, a woman was driving a Toyota Celica north on RM 620 near Concordia University Drive about 2:45 p.m. when she crossed the center line for unknown reasons and hit a van.
She was taken to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center, where she later died. No other people were in the car.
The van’s driver was taken to the same hospital; his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Police have not released the identities of the people involved.
Victoria man dies in wreck on RM 620 in Travis County
A 53-year-old man was killed Sunday morning in a single-vehicle wreck on RM 620 near Comanche Trail, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
A dispatcher said Michael Bowen of Victoria was driving his 2009 Ford pickup south on RM 620 when, the truck left the road, struck a guardrail and rolled several times.
Bowen was pronounced dead at the scene.
His passenger, 36-year-old Brandon Carpenter of Liberty Hill, was taken to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center, where he was reported to be in stable condition
Man killed in wreck in Cedar Park
An 83-year-old man was killed in a car wreck Thursday morning in Cedar Park, Police said.
Police said that they responded to a call regarding a multiple car crash about 11:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of Whitestone Boulevard near North Lakeline Boulevard.
A four door Buick was traveling west on Whitestone and failed to yield the right of way while turning south onto Lakeline, police said. The Buick, driven by 82-year-old Dorothy Hoerger, was struck by a Ford pickup that was traveling east on Whitestone.
Dorothy Hoerger was taken to Seton Medical Center Williamson with minor injuries, and Willis Hoerger, 83, who was in the passenger seat, died at the scene.
There were no other injuries reported. Police said they do not anticipate filing any criminal charges.
This was Cedar Park’s third fatality of 2009.
Woman dies after wreck in Killeen
A 35-year-old Killeen woman died Friday after the car she was driving left the road, collided with a stack of railroad ties and vaulted onto an embankment before catching fire, witnesses tolk Killeen police.
Witnesses said that the red Mercury Cougar driven by Nutosha Rena Allen traveled west in the 4100 block of Water Street at a high speed while she hung outside the car door.
The car crossed a sidewalk, driveway, and yard and came to rest in a wooded area, police said.
Allen was taken in critical condition to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 6:04 p.m.
Man in motorcycle wreck dies
A man who was involved in a motorcycle crash June 3 died last Tuesday of injuries he received in the crash.
Mitchell Frantz, 46, was riding a Harley-Davidson east on U.S. 290 near William Cannon Drive about 8:30 p.m. when he struck debris in the road and lost control of the bike, the statement said. He was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge, where he died. There were no other injuries.
